Just purchased a 1978 13" whaler. Performs great but , depending on the wind is wet!! Any suggestions on cutting down on the spray?

Slow down, adjust direction, wear rain gear.
I'm mounting a small winshield on mine for when I have to take water in the face.

I bought the mills weather curtain set. That made all the difference. But you are right, an incredibly wet boat in chop with a cross wind. Coming from Alcatraz over to Pier 39 you might as well just pull the plugs when you start because you are going to get mighty wet in the afternoon.

LLoyd13, where can I get the mills weather curtain set? I live in NJ by the way.

It's amazing how nasty SF bay gets. I feel your pain and soggyness in my 17 too. Gotta hit it early and be out of the water before noon. Try north of the Richmond San Rafael bridge and you'll really get soaked!

If you have front rails on your 13 (not too common)you can install canvas from the rails to the deck (sorta like a sailboat's cockpit setup you may have seen) this will help some, but - at speed - every one of my classics 13, 15 and 17, still got me wet in a chop. It's that low freeboard....

Buy a boat with higher gunnels.

Stay at the dock and drink beer on rough days.
