Been reading the archives but I still have a few questions. I bought a 2004 SPORT 150. Any suggested improvements/mods to the 2-stroke Mercury 60-HP outboard that comes with this package?

New prop?

Motor position?

Normal usage expected, maybe some light tubing. I mostly intend to teach my kids how to run a boat properly.

Thanks!

Boston Whaler has set up the boat with a good propeller for general use with two people aboard. With a small boat that only weighs 1,000-lbs., you will find that changes in weight will have quite an effect on performance. If you are always operating the boat with 3-4 people aboard, or always towing the kids with water toys, it might be advisable to look into a propeller with lower pitch. Do you have a tachometer? Do you get the kind of results that Boston Whaler shows in their performance data for this model?

You might also gain 1-2 MPH with a stainless steel propeller, but the boat's performance with the stock aluminum Black Max 10-3/8 X 13 looks rather good (37.5 MPH).

I don't think there is anything to be done with the motor itself, and especially while it is under warranty I would not recommend fiddling around with modifications to it.

Just curious, would mind quoting the price you paid in round numbers? I'm looking at a left over 150 60Hp 2/S w/trailer/bow rail/comfort Pkg. for $13K or 60Hp 4/S for $15K

$13,995 included every option (except bimini top) as well as a Coast Guard package...this was for the 2-stroke. MSRP was quoted as $15,655 (or something like like) before the CG package. This price included delivery, prep, etc....it was an out-the-door price (except for sales tax).

I added a second factory tank (installed) and a 12V power source (installed) for about $125.

Pricing on these was better up until a few weeks ago when Whaler stopped the "trunk money". The Sport 130 still has the trunk money and can be had for under $10K with bow rail, bow cushion and comfort package.
