I have a 1990 22 Boston whaler Guardian. Some of these boats had 155 v6 OMC's. How do I know if mine can handle the 310 hp ? The brass plate on the console reads 22' utility boat Capacity 11 persons Builder Boston Whaler INC Commercial Products Division Rocland MASS- JAN 1990 The boat has 2 100 OMC's later models. How much of a difference in performance with 155's ? Kind regards, Doug Gifford

Can you advise what your Utility Boat number is (Should be on the builders plate you quoted)It would be like UB9001, 90 being the year and the last two digits being the navy boat hull number. This would help. Also can you email me some pics of your boat, would love to see some! Also a pick of the transom, the builder's plate and overall pic of interior could help identifing it. |

Boat speed increases exponentially with horsepower increase, but the exponent is, unfortunately, 0.5--the square root. If you double the horsepower the boat speed will only increase by a factor of 1.4.Going from 200 to 310 horsepower is an increase of 1.55. The boat speed will increase by a factor of 1.25. |

The Brass Tag reads :Reg # 22 UB8841 I will take some pictures in a few days. The boat is getting a new mooring cover at Dor-A Mar Canvas in Bohemia NY. I sent a letter to Boston Whaler asking for specifics about the boat. Kind regards, Doug Gifford |

Although I think a 22 Outrage/Guardian can generally handle a pair of 150's, particularly the older Merc 2.0 liter models, BW commercial division had a special extra-cost option on law enforcement/military versions to handle the twin 150's.Yours may, or may not, have been built that way (additional transom reinforcement). |
