I am restoring and setting up my Just-purchased 1982 Montauk for river fishing and mountain lake fishing. I am considering putting a trolling motor on it and thought a transom mount would be a cleaner way to go. This also allows me to see my fish finder. My main motor is a 2000 90-HP V-4 Johnson two-stroke. Any ideas on models or makes of electric trolling motor that would work well?

I think you will find that most fishermen will recommend an electric trolling motor be install on the bow.

Robert,
Trolling motors work better pulling the boat around. (bow mount) However transom mount is easier and cheaper. (I use transom mount on my 13) Just a quick note for your fishing at altitude. I had a problem with my 16/17 when fishing at high altitude. I was at approximately 7,000 feet and the boat died everytime I tried to accelerate to a plane. Luckily there was a boat mechanic at the marina. He told me that the carburator needed to be adjusted and the prop changed to work properly. I said it was only for a week fishing. He tipped me to a method to get by. As you accelerate, when it is about to die; hit the choke momentarily. This allows the motor to jump to the high speed jets and plane out. He assured me it would not harm the motor . I run it for several years after that without trouble. Dave

In your 1982 Montauk you will find embedded wood in the bow to which you can attach the mount for the electric motor. See:
