I just bought a 94 Rage with a strong motor and like the jet drive. I wanted to know if anyone had installed trim tabs on a Rage?

Has anyone re-propped(Changed impellers)a Rage to get better performance?

Good luck finding a different impeller to change to. It is said that OMC never made any different pitch propellers. The aftermarket never embraced this jet propulsion unit as a big market and thus I've not seen much in the way of aftermarket anything for it.

As for the trim tab thought, I have to wonder what the effect would be if you could adjust the ride plate, or add a wedge to the ride plate.

I'm still working out the kinks in my Rage after having the engine rebuilt. Thus my experience with actually running the boat on plane amounts to less than 30 minutes total, one one afternoon... I've got 4 hours on the clock idling up and down my canal...

I have a '95 rage with a 115 and often wonder if a trim tab set up would help my 2000 to 3200 rpm "dead zone".

Splets, I can't tell from your post what kind of performance gains you're looking for, but for what its worth I spoke to a Rage 14 owner who installed our M80 Sport Tabs on his boat. His reason for installing them was to keep the boat on plane at lower speeds and keep the bow down in choppy water. He seemed happy with the benefits, but I didn't talk to him for long about it, so he didn't go into great detail about the performance gains.

Thanks. I have the same motivations for mid speed performance. Could the trim tabs be installed by screwing them to "starbord wood" plastic trim pieces fastened to the transom with 5600? Do jet boats need larger or smaller sized trim tabs?

Larry,

In theory, you *could* attach starboard to your transom with 3M 5200 and mount the trim tabs to the starboard. While I've never tested the adhesive properties of 5200 on starboard, I do know from experience that not many adhesives will stick to it well. For that reason I wouldn't personally recommend it, but that's not to say it wouldn't work. I haven't used it, but I've heard that King Starboard makes a proprietary adhesive designed to adhere to starboard. That said, why not just screw the tabs to the transom?

As far as sizing, you can follow standard guidelines for most jetboats, including the Rage.
