I have a 1994 200hp 2.5 Liter with a crack in the hub (where the prop is) caused by salt build up. The crack is approching 4 to 5 inches long and I am in the market for a new (used) lower unit core.

Does anyone know what year and model Mercury's Lower Units will fit this engine. Is there a reference sheet online or other resource you could point me toward.

You need to find your current gear ratio so you know what ratio to look for. All V6 lowers from that year should fit, not sure about other years. I would shoot an email to Mercury customer service

Let me make it a little more clear. I want to take my gears out of the housing I have and have them put into a used core. I think that if Mercury is anything like Evinrude, they used the same hull for several years and only played with the components inside to obtain a different gear ratio.

I could be wrong....it won't be the first time...or the last.

I've seen cracks like that welded before, both inside and outside the hub. When ground down and painted, the repair is invisible and will probably last the life of the motor if done by a competent welder who has lots of experience with aluminum welding. BillS
