I picked up a used 1986 Outrage 18 with a 1986 150 hp Evinrude carbed 2 stroke a year ago. The engine was professionally rebuilt recently and has good, even compression. The prop is stainless steel, in good condition, with a 19 pitch if I remember correctly. My question is would anyone happen to have a table showing RPM, MPH, GPH, and fuel mileage for this particular combination? If not, would anyone know the RPM for best gas mileage? Thanks!

If you look at many reports of outboard motor/boat/propeller performance, the best fuel economy always seems to be around 3500 RPM. I am not kidding. |

With the same pitch prop, and a Merc 150, I get about 3 MPG on good smooth days, running between 3200 and 3600 RPM. |

Ditto Buckda's comment on my '81 w/ '90 Merc 150 Black Max, aluminum 4 blade prop. I may get .01 mpg less when I install the awesome stern light he sold me....extra windage! |

Check out JimH's prop reports on his 22 Revenge. Those Mercury 4-bladed aluminum props are terrible performers. Try a Vensura or Rev-4 instead. A Laser II is also a great prop for an 18 with a 150 on it. |

Prop: Laser II 19 pitchRPM MPH 3400 25 3800 30 4000 32 5300 (WOT) 42 That was from some tests I did last year. No MPG figures as I didn't have anyway to measure fuel. I would actually expect you to do better at WOT, the t-top takes off a few mph and I have one cylinder that is low. The 150hp that I have should top out at 5500-5600 so I was low.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I have a problem with my voltage regulator/rectifier. It cuts out at higher RPMs so I lose my tach reading. Once I fix that I will run some tests to determine MPG and best RPM for fuel mileage. Any more information out there? |

Outrage2795,With a 150hp conventional carbed 2-stroke, you can go to the bank with these numbers: At 3500-3750m rpm (easy cruise), 7-8 gal/hour. Wide open, 15 gal/hour. Approx: 3 mpg at cruise, 2mpg wide open.

According to Peter's post in the single vs twin fuel mileage thread, he idicated his similarly powered 18 got 4 mpg. |
