Hello, all.

In the ConWave forums I have seen many opinions, pro and con, about the Johnson Oceanrunner outboard series, and also about VRO systems for these engines.

The only consistent opinion I can find is that these Oceanrunners are gas-hungry! Every other opinion varies.

Mine is a 1993 Oceanrunner with VRO, and I welcome any new opinions or insights about the pros and cons of this set-up -- particularly maintenance tips to keep all A-OK.

ContinuousWave is a delight and an education.

Thank you.

OMC was the first to come out with a "saltwater series" motor with a stainless steel steering arm and tilt tube, along with coated exhaust passageways back in 1993. A few years later Merc and Yamaha followed with their offerings due to OMC's success in the salt water market.

The motor was actually better on fuel, especially at full throttle than comparable Mercs of that year.

The VRO is a good system if maintained and inspected, just like any other system. Read about it and the myths by going to http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html
