Topic:   13 ft - 25 HP vs 40 HP

posted 06-17-2005 09:54 PM ET (US)         I need to repower. 1984 13 sport. I have been wrestling with a new Merc. Classic 40 vs the classic 25. They no longer make anything inbetween unless you go 4 stroke. I know the performance of the 40 would be nice, but the extra weight and cost, fuel, is it really worth it? The kids like to knee board, with what I have on the boat now, a 1982 35 HP merc. Will the new 25 get a 100 lb kid to plane on a knee board with 2 other kids on the boat? The other issue is the likely speed the 40 will get with the same 100 lbs at the helm. Thoughts, and any one have a 25hp on a 13 that could share some performance numbers - WOT, etc.
