[The TOPIC of this article has been changed; it was "Help! 1980 22' Revenge capabilities"--jimh.] Hi folks, New to the website, and I have to admit I have historically been a Donzi Center Console guy. However, I am seriously considering the purchase of a 1980 [Revenge 21] with a 225 Evinrude. However, I am having difficulty finding out the specifications on the boat, particularly the deadrise of the hull. The deadrise of the hull is important because where I boat in the Northeast we face a pretty good constant chop of 2 to 5 feet. I know the hull # is BWCC9405M80J. Is there someplace I can look up to see the details on the boat? Also, if any of you folks have experience with this hull, I would appreciate any comments. I have only seen pictures of the boat, but it appears to me the hull is more planing than deep V which has me a little concerned with the pounding my knees will take in the chop. This model does not have the full cuddy but more of a storage area underneath with a pass thru windshield to the forward deck. Thanks, in advance for your help. Dennis |

Hi Dennis, Welcome to the CW Forums. The continuousWave web site has almost all the information you request. I suggest you start in the reference section and view the specifications page. The forum archives can be searched if you have a specific question such as: "what is the deadrise of a 22?" You give some conflicting information about the boat you are looking at. The HIN you provide tells me right away you are NOT looking at a Revenge 22, but a Revenge 21, and one of the last ones made at that. The 21's are a "Cathedral Hull" design; sort of a modified tri-hull, not a deep-V at all. The Revenge 21 did not have sleeping accommodations under the foredeck but it did have a walk-through windshield. The 1980 Revenge 22 is a true deep-V hull, but does not have a walkthrough windshield. It does have a true cuddy. The best of both worlds is the Revenge 22 Walk Through, introduced in 1984. The same 22 foot deep-V hull with a nice cuddy AND a walk-through windshield. This model is a really nice Whaler and would be much smoother riding than a 21. |

There is a great deal of information available on the website outside of this collection of 275,000 reader contributed articles. The specifications of almost all Boston Whaler boats through 22-feet are organized and listed in the Reference area: Dimension and Production Information You can confirm the model of the boat you are looking at by comparing it to the various different models of boats made by Boston Whaler which carried the model name REVENGE. They are shown in an article I wrote for the CETACEA collection: Whose Revenge Is It? If you are indeed looking at a REVENGE 21, its hull does not really have a deep-v configuration, and there really is no figure for its deadrise angle. The ride of the classic 21-foot Boston Whaler hull is quite unusual. In a moderate sea it will slide over waves and give a good account of itself. No 21-foot Boston Whaler hulls are really known for their ability to slice into 5-foot head seas without delivering some heavy pounding. Of course, anyone who says they have a 21-foot boat that can slice into 5-foot head seas without pounding is probably a bit of an exaggerator. The overall sea keeping ability of a the classic 21-foot hull is quite good. These models are often highly sought, particularly when the hull is in excellent condition. |

Thank you, for the replies. I kind of figured the seller may have been confused at what he was selling after exploring this site in a little more detail (terrific site, by the way!) Anyway, although the hull on this boat would probably handle some moderate stuff, I think I would be better served with a true Deep V design by Whaler. Thanks, again! Dennis |
