Well - I have about 30 hrs on the motor now and am happy to report that this motor runs great on 87 octane even though the manu says to feed it 91. This motor is instantly responsive on all levels of rpm's. The only negative I can say is that it is over responsive at low throttle..ie: you are idling/maneuvering along and just touch the throttle for a bit more speed to decrease your turning radius and the boat 'leaps' forward...have to be real delicate with throttle control or you bowl your passengers over backwards!

This motor has abundant power and i believe that this motor could be a contender for a 25 OR with conventional transom mount. take a look at this test report:

The way I see it...if the F250 will push that hull ( 4300 lbs ans 21 deg. deadrise) with that performance then it should work very well on a 25.

I cant find the 25 OR spec section on this site? is there one?

You are probably costing yourself performance by running cheap gas.

Yamaha says use 91 octane because they used high compression heads to get 250hp out of the engine block. By running cheap gas the computer has to retard the timing to keep from burning holes in the pistons. Retarded timing means less performance and power. Why pay extra for a 250, go cheap on the gas, and only get the power of a 225 anyways???

The compression is the same on both engines? Variable cam timing is the diff. Even if the ping sensor retards the motor a bit when under load it is still worth it for the low end performance tweak. I get the same top end speed as a 250 hp 2-stroke. Where I live I can only buy hi quality 87 octane and I am not working the motor that hard with a 22 OR thus it probably dosent even need to retard the timing. But I am not a real mechanic so who knows.

Well I guess if all you can get is 87 its all you can get.

You must be getting around 55mph or so at WOT with that 250. Sounds like a fun ride

actually i am getting 50 mph with t-top , downhill. i havent played with probs because the take off acceleration is perfect so not really much point changing it...I need a fast hole shot as am in the land of shallow water.
