I'm looking to purchase a new outboard for my Montauk. I anticipate getting a Yamaha or Honda 75 HP. My question, does anyone have any information reguarding the use of a jet drive outboard on a Montauk?

I have heard that the jet drive type of engine are much less fuel efficient.

I understood that as I read further on with the postings. A response was found where a 50 Honda 4 srtk w/15 hp kicker and still less the gross weight of a 90 hp. My 1988 90 Yamaha still runs good but I would like to get away from the exhaust smell.
Any thoughts on a 60 hp?

Was quite warm today in Tampa Bay.

I saw my first 90 hp E-TEC last week that had the Jet Drive...

I stopped and talked to the man who bought the engine brand new and said he loves it. The only problem he has had with the Jet Drive is picking up weeds and of course losing a little power until they got sucked through..

The engine was not on a Whaler though......

This is good information for I venture to the Florida Keys annually for Lobster season. There is always floating grass to deal with.

I would get the 90 HP jet drive outboard because they don't put out the same amount of power as the propeller version. Your net HP with the 90 jet drive will be closer to a 60 HP outboard with prop.
