I just recently purchased a 1995 Mountauk 17 running a 90-HP Johnson.

When pulling my boys on a tube, the ski line actually drags through the water due to the low height of the transome and recommended bridal. This leads to a ride that can be difficult to control sometimes and creates a lot of spray to the face.

I have skied off boats before that have an after-market ski pylon, however I understand BW does not recommend a pylon due to the lack of backing in their floor material.

My thought is a ski pylon would work using the following setup:
1. Two braces to the back inside transom. I would consider thru-bolting it to the trasom as well.
2. The vertical center pole could be mounted right in front of the back bilge cover. To strengten this application, I would consider putting a plate on the underneath of the bilge area and clamp the top down on this plate. This would spread the load to a whole area instead of a few screws in the floor w/out backing.

What do you all think? Has anyone else put a ski pylon in a Mountauk? Pictures?

Thanks much!
