I've got the opportunity to buy a 1993 Mercury 200 XRi fuel injected motor for very little money. I believe these were mostly used on ski boats and bass boats. Assuming the motor is in good shape, is there any reason not to put on on a Boston Whaler and take it in the ocean. If anyone has any knowledge of these motors and particulary their fuel injection system, I'd like to hear. Thanks, Mike

I have a pair of these 200 EFI engines, 1997 versions, counter-rotating, on my 25' Whaler. They are bulletproof, and one of the finest two stroke outboards ever built, for my money. 1800 hours and no repairs except for a rectifier on one, and just recently, a stator on the other. They are extremely quiet running at speed, more so than the four strokes or Optimax DFI's.The only question is whether that particular used engine is in good shape. It's really about 210-215 HP at the prop. |

If it's an L (20") and you need an XL (25") I may be able to help you. I have a 1989 2.4 liter Mercury 200 with a bad powerhead, but a good gearcase. Mine was a 20" with a factory Mercury extension installed to make it a 25". I am parting out the motor, and am willing to deal. |
