The new Powerboats Reports are in the mail and they have an interesting update on thier long term engine testing.Along with others they report on the one year run with the twin ETEC 90hp engines they have. They tried to put on 300hrs in one year but had only enough time to get 240hrs. Good report! Interesting read!
I have seen though that the Twin Vees boat company on which they are mounted has it's hands full with customers.
They were sold not long ago and quality control has been a problem! I'm sure everyone knows I cannot reprint etc! Try
to get the whole article not just the first part!

Can you tell us more about the article, and not leave us in suspense?

Did they mention at all that the first powerhead that was replaced, was torn down and everything was fine, so they did NOT have a failure?

They did not mention the tear down. But they did say that the knocking problem that was also experienced by the replacement powerhead went away when BRP replaced the inferior fuel lines in the boat that was causing fuel starvation.

They also reported their long term experience with a 2002 Optimax 150. Their experience was good except for a leaking tilt/trim unit said to be caused by corrosion. The Mercury technician they consulted said the corrosion was likely the result of the sacrificial anode not being good anymore. I'll bet the PBR folks never changed the transom bracket anode during their 4 years with this Optimax because they make absolutely no mention of any maintenance they performed on this motor over the 4 years they've had it.

Seahorse-They somewhat of admitted that the fuel lines were the problem, as when a new engine was put on, it also ran rough until they changed the fuel lines. They said they ran well all the rest of the year! I changed my fuel lines and I think anyone who repowers should put in new lines if they are old!
