I know this subject has been beat to dead in the past, but I couldn't find the "real" answer yet (on this site search), so I will ask again: Friend of mine will puts the 2005 Mercury 75hp Optimax 2 stroke on his 80 Montauk, and looking for the "ultimate" prop size/type and controler (consol mount) for his old-new motor/boat. He won't joins to any racing circuit of any sort, and just want to take some guys (including myself) go out to near-shore (outside Golden gate Bridge) for fishing. I've told him either 19-21" props will works (that what I have on my 18 and 25 Outrages), but he did not believed me. So if any CW member actually has the same setup, please give me(him) the hints. Thanks. Skeepyjack |

Thinh, Tell your friend he wants a 13" x 18" Mercury Vengeance for the 75 HP Optimax on his Montauk. Top speed will be about 38 MPH. I think any 19" prop will probably be a bit too much but if he wanted to try one I would sugest a Stiletto Advantage I 13.25" x 19" |

On a Montauk you usually need 90hp to turn a 19" prop. If your friends engine has a 2.33:1 gearcase I think Tom is on the money, go for a prop with 17 or 18" of pitch, and a diameter around 13 3/8" |
