I am now considering repowering my REVENGE 19 as the current 1991 175 Johnson is way too much engine for that boat and a tad thirsty (also a 25-inch shaft).

Here are my results so far on 20-inch shaft engines:

2001 Used Yamaha F115 $3800(too small in hp?)
2002 Used Honda F130 $4500 (too heavy @ 500lbs)
2003 Used Yamaha 150 HPDI $5500(reliable?)
2005 New Suzuki F115 $6800 (too small in hp?)
2003 New optimax 135 $6900 (reliable/quiet enough?)
2005 New Yamaha F150 $9180 ($$$ and a tad thirsty)
2006 New E-Tec 130 $8300

Now these are all bare engines in the box, not too worried about rigging costs as I will do it myself. I am going to ask $2300 for my 175 that is in great condition and freshwater engine. The E-tec is hitting my hot button to be honest. Would love a 140 Johnson/Suzuki but can't seem to find one.

Of those I'd be inclined to go with the 03 Yamaha 150 HPDI. I've heard that the 150 HPDI was a good motor, without the problems they 250 and 300 had. It is on the inexpensive side of your list, has enough power to push that 21 well, and has both the torque of a 2 stroke, and good fuel eceonomy with DFI.

Went and looked at some engines today. Found a 2006 Suzuki 140 for $7700 or $8200 with 6yr warranty. I think i can find a leftover for cheaper. I'm ruling out the 150 Yammie...what a monster. Don't think i want that big of an engine hanging off her 30 year old transom.

That's what I put on my Revenge 19 and I love it. I got mine
from Bayracermarine a year ago for $8800 w/controls, two props and delivered to my door on the West Coast.

Well I did the deal...2005 Suzuki 115 new in crate with 6yr warranty for $5995 OUT THE DOOR! Can't pass up the price and I think 115 will do just about as well as the 140 being most say they lack in hp for a 140. If I get 40mph I will dance the jig.

Nick - It's obvious you never listened to the Evinrude infomercial!

I'll be very anxious to hear how the 115 4-stroke performs on that hull. I'm sure you'll get 40. I have even thought a 115 4-stroke might be nice on my ribside.

Nick -

Is that the second new Suzuki you've bought? You must have a good dealer down there offering good service and support eh?

Sounds like you were really pleased with your 70 HP on your Newtauk.

Congratulations on the motor.

Nick,
Just paid, last week, $5,974 for a 2006 DF 70 Suzuki and I thought I got a good deal. You got a steal. Lay low you could be arrested. Enjoy.

Actually I have owned 4 Suzukis, 3 being brand new and loved every one. I am not sure how good the dealer's are, none have ever been back to the shop after the 20 hour service.

This was an exceptional deal and hence why I jumped on it. I really wanted a 140 but I guess so does everyone else because they are hard to find. The best I have found are the Johnson's on E-Bay for $7300 but they are 25" shafts. I don't think a weak 25hp is worth $1300.

Larry I looked everywhere for ANYTHING and the cheapest 115 Merc I found was $7200. I almost bought a 1999 115 Ficht still in the crate for $4k but with no warranty I passed. One reason I liked the Zuki is the weight. The bow is so heavy on that boat, the extra 40 lbs over the 175 will help a little.

Please keep us informed on how your boat performs with that motor. I have also been considering that motor for repower on my 1971 Outrage 21. I also agree regarding weight on these old outrage hulls...they seem to run better with a light bow, and/or more weight on the stern.
