1982 22 Outrage notched transom. The prior setup was with 250 OX66. I didn't have it very long and someone stole the engine. After much consideration, I finally decided to take a chance on a 2005 250 HPDI. The prior setup generally ran about 10 difference between rpms and mph, i.e. 3500=25, 4000=30, 4500=35, etc.

I am really impressed with the performance of the 250 hpdi on this hull. The numbers are much closer. 3800 rpms cruises at 36mph. I haven't found any place on the powerband above planing speed where the difference is more than 5. Without trying to trim and tweak, I got 47 mph with two people, 46 mph with five (two were kids. WOT is 5200. On the way to pull out yesterday, with just me and 2/3 fuel, it hit 49. That's with a t-top. Hole shot is really quick. Everybody needs to be holding on to something, if you goose it out of the hole.

I generally cruise about 3800 rpms. I just gained 8mph at the same rpm level at cruise. That's almost 30% increase in efficiency, not including the "less fuel usage" factor.

Mounted high. Turning a 21 pitch stainless. I'm impressed.

Have you had a chance to check out your average MPG? Just curious. I'm considering repowering my 22' Guardian.

Not yet. The closest Yamaha performance bulletin I can find
comparable to my set up is

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/products/otb/bulletins/bulletin_otb_2StrokePerf_HPDI_250hp_02-249-SCT-B.pdf

My set up is a little lighter and less beam. Runs a little more efficiently. My raw numbers, mph and rpms, are a little better than in the report. I am hopeful that the mpg will be at least as good. Should be a little better, since my other numbers are better. 3.5 to 4 mpg at cruise would be sweet.

If the engine doesn't blow, it is a very nice powerplant for the old 22 Outrage hull.
