When picking a propeller, what does one look for? Does a higher pitch get you a higher top end? Does it give you an increase in RPM's which cuases a bigger top end? I have to say I am confused on the matter and would like some info on it.

Thanks, John

John, You will only get more speed if your engine can twist the prop with more pitch in it.
More pitch means "LESS" rpms.
For instance, if your running a 14.25 diameter x 17 pitch prop, & your engine "maximum rated" rpms is 5600 rpms & your getting 5600 rpms @ wot, you can't put a 14.25 x 19p prop on, because you will loose 400 more rpms because of the added 2" of pitch [ from a 17p to a 19p ].
2" of pitch added means 200 rpms less for each inch of pitch, so that would make 400 rpms off your top end & drop your maximum rpms to only 5200 rpms.
Now, if you go down in pitch from a 19p to a 17p, you will gain 400 rpms.
It's 200 rpms per inch of pitch, more pitch means less rpms & less pitch means more rpms.
