I am looking to change the engines on a 1980 outrage. I currently have a single 175 Mariner but this gets very sluggsh with more than 4 people on board.
I am loking to change to twin 115 2 stroke mariner engines. Does anyone have any idea how this will work out? I am a bit limited to the choice of engines as I am boating in Abu Dhabi.

That should work excellently for you, both in power and weight. If they are available and you're OK with the shape they're in and the price, it would be a great match for an Outrage 22.

If 4 strokes are available...go for the extra $$$. They will burn less than 5gph each at 4k compared to about 7 with the 2 smokes. Anotherwords they will burn less than what your 175 does but the 2S's will burn about 40% more than your 175. Depends on what fuel costs in Abu.

Nick, I don't think fuel prices UAE are much of a concern.

A pair of 115 2-strokes will power a classic 22 outrage very nicely. A pair of 4-strokes will be too heavy for that hull.

I have the same boat with a pair of Yamaha 130s (same basic engine as the 115) on it. Hole shot is very impressive - maybe 2 seconds to plane - and top end is a little over 50 mph.

Thanks for your helpful comments, think i will go with the 2 strokes, I am buying new engines and thses are a good saving on 4 stroke. Petrol costs are not really an issue here. Would be interested to know how much the cost of 2 Mariner 115 engines would cost you guys including fitting over there, my estimate is 38,000 UAE Dhs which is approx US$10,345 (for the pair) and for the 4 stroke pair (100HP) its a little over US$13K

Guess its worth the cost as we have 365 days of boating season!
