Hi there,

I currently have bought myself a 17ft speedboat with a 40HP mercury engine. Its a pull start and a pain in the butt ever time I want to start her.....climb over the seats to the motor. kick her then back over the seats again.

What I want to do is change it to an electrical start but im not sure how to go about it. Any resources or information on how to do it would be appreciated.

Very confusing title to your article, Martin.

You need to take the engine serial number to a Mercury dealer and see if they have the electric start conversion for it.

Failing that, search ebay for parts. You will need the starter, wiring harness, controller and possibly a different flywheel.

Depending on the age of your engine it would probably be less expensive to sell it and buy an electric start engine.

Just curious, though. How did the name "Evinrude" get into your title?

Red sky at night. . .
