I just replaced the carburetor gaskets on my 9.9 Mercury kicker (1992), by the book...but when I pump fuel in I have a fuel leak coming from top (mixing chamber cover). I've reconstructed the carb twice follwing the manufacture's repair manual with the same exact result...I'm about to set it ablaze...please help.

Hi, I would consider bringing it to a repair shop. if the shift is on the handle, it is a super complicated carb, some help might be the easier solution. |

Did you replace the inlet needle? Did you test the float by submerging it in gas to see if it has a leak? If the float leaks it will get heavy and this causes flooding....though the most common cause of flooding is a bad inlet needle, or debris between the needle and seat. Also, make sure the little primer ball has not been pushed into its return spring...this will also cause continuous flooding through the tiny primer passage at the back of the carb. |
