I have a 12' whaler - 1969 I believe. It has a 20 hp evenrude - short shaft. It seems to me that the prop is not in the water enough. Should this boat have a long shaft motor? |

Never heard of a 1969 Whaler 12' but the 1969 13'3" (Whaler 13) came with a 15" (short) transom. In 1973/74 the hull was modified (smirk added, tan interior, 20" transom)...during the transition some boats came with above changes but still had the 15" transom. |

Yeah, you are right, It's the whaler 13. I'm thinking about a new motor. 30 -40 hp and wasn't sure if I should be going long or short shaft. |

Information on the recommended shaft length for outboard motors for use on classic Boston Whaler boats is given in the REFERENCE section for almost every model manufactured between 1959 and 1997. See: Dimension and Production Information A great deal of other information about these boats is also provided in this listing, including the years of production. As mentioned, there is no lising of a 12-foot model manufactured c.1969. |
