Just purchased matching twin 1990 Merc 150s (carbed, reversing, 25" shafts, complete setup incl 2 service manuals...both runners).

The engines will mount to CMC 5" setback, 6" manual jack plates on a heavy 90 CPD Outrage.

I know just enough about outboard engine wheels & using CW data to achieve performance targets to get myself in trouble. On Tugs; pitch, dia and gear ratio are always considered together so Im a little confused with just dealing with 19P number only.
My tug setup has 42 dia, 39 pitch with 3.92 TD 509 gears.

Here are the stamped numbers on each SS wheel that appear to be like new.

48-16317-19 on the inner hub
Quicksilver 48 16317 A5 19P stamped on the outside.

48-16316-19 (R) on the inner hub
Quicksilver 48 16316 A5 19P stamped outside.

What should I expect?
What is their value?
...Thx for your time.

48 16316 A5 19P and 48 16317 A5 19P are right and left hand rotation Quicksilver (Mercury) stainless steel propellers. These are the same as the Mercury Vengeance props made today (same part number apart from casting suffix).

These are basic stainless steel props that are worth maybe $200-$300 for the pair.

You will better to run a pair of 19" Mercury Mirage Plus propellers on your boat. Top speed should be around 50 MPH.

Other props to try are the 19" Mercury Offrshore/Vensuras or Revolution 4s if a four blade prop is desired.

If top speed is your objective, then a Stiletto Advantage II or Turbo prop in a 19" pitch or a Mercury Laser II in a 21" pitch do nicely.

Sounds like the spare wheels & a little extra ballast in the bow issue is solved.
hehe.

I dont wanna be forced to slow down in seas the hull will handle because the wheels kick out.

Sheffield Marine Prop Inc (vanc) quotes Michigan 19" SS 4 blade wheels are essentially the same quality/performance as Merc for $337 ea. plus tax. plus shipping plus hub kits, call it $800. He quotes 4 blade have more bottom torgue, the bow will ride higher (better in seas) with no loss to top end.

Do you dispute any of that Tom?

The props are 19 inch pitch as indicated by the last number stamped on them. To find the prop model, you'll need to look up the number on the Merc site, or with an internet shop that sells props.

Plugging the numbers into the prop calculator on this site: 1.86:1 gear in the 150s, 19inch pitch, 10% slip, and 5500 top rmp on the Merc 150, you come up with 47.9 mph which sound pretty close to what I would expect from past experiences.

Bunk. No two propeller models are the same. I can get you Stiletto Bay Pros (four blade) which will equal or exceed the quality of the Michigans for a hell of a lot less than what you were quoted. I can even get you Turbo four blades or that price.

Nobody makes better propellers than Mercury, but as always, every boat/motor combo is different. Try before you buy, or at least some some real word research.

I had a feeling, whew, that was close, I really fell for Sheffields bs & even had my visa out but I resisted the impulse & didnt order & even told him I wanted to wait til my "advisor" firmed up what he was saying.
