Took her out yesterday after replacing fuel line and checking all connections and a fresh tank of 93 fuel. Did not GPS it because it was just a shakedown run but she popped up on plane with 400+lbs of people on the back twart and ran nicely in the 10 minutes i drove it. No bucking, puking, etc.

Now I have not installed the tach again(read below) but I believe I am running 5k+ with a 11.75x17 alum on a 1994 40hp Rude and bottom paint in good shape. Scary...no way, fast for a 13, sure. I would say 30ish. I do NOT have PTnT so she is set kinda low but does porpoise at cruise. I will mess with that and raise her up 2 holes as well(sitting on transom). Just bought a new 17" SS prop as well(Rapture). Anyone running the same setup and which pin do you have it set on? When running WOT she is level on the water, I think I need to go up a pin but worried about the porpoising. Raising the engine up "should" eliminate that I believe.

What tach are you guys running? Mine is an OMC that was on the 1982 35hp OMC and says 5 pulse/revs but I read like 6k+ which I know is not right. What the heck is 5 pulses/rev? I thought 6 pin was the correct setup but this tach has no adjustments, just plug it in the control box plug(3pin?).

Anyone run a jack plate and did it make a difference or just set that 190lbs aft further? I have to feather her off plane with 2 people or water comes over transom. I think I will try and put battery under console as well. Do you still have the VRO connected? If not, how did you disconnect it and do I need a new NON-VRO fuel pump to do so($120). i can not put anything under the front seat(fuel tank) because I have a custom mohogany storage box under it.

You need a 6 pulse tach for that motor. Marine surplus has adjustable ones (teleflex) for like $15. Have them calibrate it for you, no charge.

I ran the 50 at the second from the top tilt pin hole.

I have a tach off my 175 OMC which is set to 6 pulse but not sure how to connect wiring. Maybe I will cut the old wiring off and use that on the 175 tach to plug in my controls.

This 40 has a whacked out tilt system, not even close to your 50 plus my transom has a different contour being a 1981 vs 1967 I think. Will just try and see. My tilt looks like PTnT but no P, just a manual switch to lock cyl.

The grey wire is the pulse wire. The other two are power? You might have a lighting wire also light should share ground with the tach power which could help you figure out the + or -.

Installed 175hp tach last night, will see how she does...set to 6p. Grey on send, black on grnd, purple on Ign. should do the trick.

Water over the transom? Haven't seen that syndrom yet while underway. I went from a 11.75x17 (only was getting 4,600 at best) to a 12.5x13. Different boat. 13 SS with a Rude 40. 12 Gallon tank, VRO gone.

Your Honor - I have experimented w/ my Classic 13 Sourpuss specific to porpoising and motor position. It never does it with one or more passengers. I set pin mid or one lower. However, if I am alone it will porpoise. Only remedy I have found is pin all the way down and the sucker flys. I have not tried to put weight up front for trim when solo. Don't like that option. Motor is 92 Yam 40 w/ pwr T.

good luck

You never pulled back the throttle and have water come over your transom when coming to rest?
