OK, so the cavitation (anti?) plate on my mid-80s Mariner 40 seems to line up about an inch above the keel on my 13. I guess it is a 15" shaft...right? Eitherway in operates great.

Now if I mount this same motor on a 13 w/out the notch will I be in trouble? It seems that the notch only accounts for a few inches, but I don't know. The engine would be going from a 1967 13', to a mid-80's 13'.

I'm thinking about buying the new boat while I take my time to restore the '67. Just want ot make sure I can use the outbaord I have now.

Thanks all...

No, I don't think that this will work. A few inches for an outboard is day and night. If the boat is blocking the prop it will be real hard for it to grab water freely and you could end up going nowhere on the water. I'm not really up on my 13ft info though so i'm sure someone else can chime in-

Without a really big setback bracket(8-10") it would not work.

See Clark Roberts' response on the "tiller v console" thread, I had basically the same question. Clark says a 5 to 8 inch setback should work.
