I have a 13' whaler older style with a cut out (lower) transom. This is designed for a 15" shaft outboard. Im am putting on a 40hp Tohatso motor with a longer shaft. I believe it to be 20". I was told I would need a jack plate to get it right. Any comments or direction would be helpful. Im am now looking on ebay for one.6" height adjustment, 4' SET BACK. How does this sound? I am also in need of a stand off bracket (used) to connect up my steering. The boat had 6hp with tiller. Anyone have a used one for sale?? If not I also have the option of a 25 hp longshaft Johnson tiller, but that also would require a jack plate. Thanks, Tom

Jazz,

If you are using a jackplate, the teleflex steering will clear the transom. You won't need a standoff plate. The standoff is only used if you are mounting a short shaft motor and want to use teleflex.

I have posted before on this subject, a jackplate is not the only option for using log shaft motors. While it takes some work converting a 13' transom to a long shaft is not that hard of a job, and when you are finished the boat can keep its original Whaler look.
Before and after.
