Just purchased a 13' sport with 40hp mercury, oil injected 4 stroke. It came with a 6.5gal fuel tank. Knowing that a rpm between 3200-3500 will comsume about 4gph, what is the recommended size to replace existing tank? I don't plan to visit offshore but don't want to run out of gas in the creeks. I also know to carry and extra tank but I would like to have a main tank at least 12gal.
tks

4-Stroke oil injected ?
Never seen that Merc.
But 4 gph x hours to enjoy it + 20 % = capacity tank you need.

my 0.02

4 gph is going to be your WOT fuel burn, cruise is going to be about 1-3gph.

12 gal should be plenty to run you until your back and butt are very sore and you are very sunburned.
