I have a 1997 OUTRAGE 17 and I am considering re-powering with an E-TEC 150-HP. I have heard lots of good news about the E-TEC re speed, fuel consumption, and maintenance. I'd love to hear from people who have made such a switch and can let me know their experiences. Thanks.

Let me know how this works out, Careful at full speed the whaler has a round bottom and is not designed for this high speed, the boat when trimed out will start to wobble/ tail walk. I have an older 17'whaler(1975)with a 140 rude, to help with the weight I moved the console forward a bit and placed the battery and fuel tank under the console...good luck

Bob Kemmer--I am going to ask you again, and this has to be about the fifth time, if you would please use the META-Discussion to begin discussions related to the website and its authors. Please do not try to derail discussions by interjecting new topics into them which are not related to the initial topic.

If you have some problem with this author and his choice of topic, you should raise your concern in the META-Discussion. Again, Bob, let me explain to you another time: the META-Discussion is a discussion about the discussions. So please stop trying to raise these topics in other discussion areas.

You are becoming a very disruptive participant to the discussion area, and I would hate to see you go down a path that leads to you trivializing your own position as a respected participant. As I have said, you are what you write. It is not possible for me to protect you from the reputation you can earn for yourself with your own words and actions.

Sorry Jim,i guess it just irks me to see selective enforcement of the rules around here. Some posts are allowed to stay while others are zapped for the same reasons. Then again it's your sandbox,we're all just turds in it.

Bob--I am afraid I am not getting through to you. You MUST stop introducing into legitimate discussions your comments about how the website needs to operate. If you cannot keep yourself from doing this on a voluntary basis I will he forced to resort to other means to stop this.

I have provided a special discussion area for discussing the website, its discussions, and its participants as a separate area. I am have tried to explain this to you repeatedly. Please listen and comply with this simple request: use the META-Discussion to discuss the website, the other discussions, or the other participants. Do not introduce these topics into discussions about boating.

If you insist on disregarding this, you will no longer be welcome to participate.

I'm running the 200 hp version of that motor on my Outrage 22 Cuddy. I have 50 hours on it, and it is a fine machine. It starts on the first click, almost instantly, and is very quiet at idle. Sound at speed is also quite low, much more so than the carburated 2-stroke it replaced. There is no noticable smoke (running the XD-100 synthetic oil). Acceleration is excellent, and so far, my fuel economy has averaged about double the MPG of my old 2-stroke. I opted for the I-Command NEMA 2000 gauge package, and I'm very pleased with those as well. See the Small Boat Electrical forum for details on that. Among the best features is it's light weight. This means plenty of freeboard at the transom. It also has a very robust charging system, and my batteries have not needed a trickle charge since installing this engine. This is a very noticeable difference over my old motor. See photos at: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v408/andygere/Repower/
