My 1985 90 HP Evinrude is in good shape and runs well but it does not have trim/tilt (TT). I can buy a used Evinrude TT with guaranteed operation for about $125 or buy a new CMC TT for about $350. I personally prefer the look of a boat without the extra CMC hardware. Are there any significant performance differnces? Second, would it be a tecnically challenging installation to add the used Evinrude TT for the existing motor? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I have used both, milehiwhaler, and I prefer the OEM PT&T without a second thought.

If I wasn't still considering repowering my Striper 15 I would buy an OEM unit to replace the CMC130 unit I have on her now. When I do repower, it will be with an engine that has OEM PT&T.

I do think the installation of the OEM unit is technically challenging, but worth the hassle.

I have 2 peeves with the CMC unit: 1. It is ugly, and 2. it doesn't have the slow speed of operation in the trim range and requires a lot of fiddling to get exactly the right trim.

milehi, I am also searching for an OEM TnT for a 1987 Johnson 50. It is a two cylinder that seems to have a reputation of being a workhorse. She is running and needs minimal work. But the TnT is shot with one SS ram has been completely cut in half. I guess it was a poor design, and therefore having difficulty locating a used one. Do you have any resources for used OMC equipment? Thanks. zotcha.

Zotcha-

I have been just keeping my eye on ebay. Unfortunatley, I have not found any parts companies to utilize. We don't have alot of marine salvage yards here in Colorado, unlike Florida.

Get a part number for your application and post a search on ebay. These two sites may help.

Thanks Contender. Located exactly the model I need last night on ebay. Unfortunately, owner states the pump appears to have been opened and does not have time to test. So what's it worth? Three days to go on auction and he states $23 to ship. Then I think I have two unoperative outdated units. Priceless. zot.

I've actually bought several brand new parts at Marine Parts Outlet in Stuart, in person (water pump kit, stainless tilt tube). They've recently moved 4 doors down the street to a newer bigger facility. Just a happy customer.

I have a CMC unit on my 13 and although it is a bit heavy for a 13 I think it would be great on a 17. The best advantage is it is also a setback bracket(like a manual jackplate) so if your engine is in the blind holes, here is your chance to gain PTnT and raise your engine up some. Problem with OEM is the unit is NOT all you need. You will need a relay switch which is not cheap and a throttle with switch(toggles suck). It will wind up costing you about $5-600 when done if you do it yourself. The CMC is all you need for about $450 and is NEW.

Thanks for all of your replies of advice and experience. I also see that the information may have helped zotcha.

I went ahead and purchased the used OMC PTnT (got it for $177 with shipping). I do agree with all of the comments made by the Judge in his post for a CMC application.

Some small external factors made my decision for me plus I still think the CMC lacks some aesthetic. First, I am purhasing a new binnicle for my new console (so I could include a PTnT switch on that). Second, I am only using the boat on some lakes and reservoirs in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming (where super tweaked performance is not required)

I guess I am putting a lot of confidence and dollars in hopes that the Evinrude V4 will push me around for several more years to come.

Hope I can find an inexpensive relay switch to complete this project under the budget of a CMC.
