For those that have hydraulic steering on their Montauk: what length of hose did you use? My boat is a couple hours away and need to know how long to make the hoses.

Yes I do know that some say it is overkill, but I like the hydraulic steering.

thanks

Steve,

Last year I installed a SeaStar hydraulic steering system on the Montauk 17 I was working on. I ordered the standard 16-foot set from SeaStar. It's probably a foot too long but you can easily get rid of the slack inside the console. Better a bit too long than too short.

We have both a SeaStar system and a BayStar. Both are good, but the BayStar is a lot slower lock to lock. It is also cheaper by $300.

The BayStar is set up so you can easily adjust the length to fit your exact application. The SeaStar comes with set length hoses that you have to make sure you give enough room that they don't kink when the engine is tilted.
