[On a SUPER SPORT 15 which has been fitted with a jack plate] is a transom plate underneath the jack plate and between the jack plate and the transom also used? I have a Bob's convertible MJ5. Should the transom be reinforced before mounting the jack plate? |

I installed the MJ5 on my 1977 15' Sport. No reinforcement necessary. Some pics http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a141/alfajet/Sport15/Upgrading/ Alain |

Jackplate not adjusted yet. I'll install the 13x19 Michigan SS prop then try. Thanks for the bilge ! Good luck Alain |

No reinforcement necessary but I do recommend that little $20 alum bar that goes behind both of the top mounting bolts inside the splashwell. I run mine about 4-5" up with no problems unless you run offshore. They get a tad funky in following seas if too high plus they can ventilate when trying to plane(like a slipping clutch) which is not good when a 5' wave is trying to crash on your transom. |

Alpha, where are your bottom bolts for your jack plate? You need 2 more at the bottom. Sal |

Yes I do. Here are some pics: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/an86carrera/boats/ I did use the plate that Tohsgib speaks of and I drilled new holes in the jackplate so I could use thru bolts in lower engine well rather than the blind holes many have. Len |

Sal, I reused the 2 (bootom) bolts and holes that the 70 VRO had in the slotted holes. |

Alfa with the bolts so close together it would seem all the stress is being concentrated in one area and the fiberglass would be more prone to cracking. If mounted that way I would probably use an aluminum reinforcing plate to prevent cracks. One nice thing about a Rite-Hite plate or other one piece jackplates is I believe they spread the stresses out much better on the hull. It seems like there is a LOT more surface area |

Litey, I have to add the hose. It will pass via one of the semi circular cuts. This sunday I installed tach and voltmeter and tested them. I have to install a Rite-Hite on the 22', swap rod holders, and change all tank hoses... (Life is short). Teak oil, Thanks guys for your advices. Alain |
