What is the range on a 1983 Outrage 25 with a single Honda 225-HP four-stroke on an Armstrong Bracket? I'm guessing the fuel tanks are around 65 and 75 gallons. Any information on the tank size or the range would be great. Assume two adults at 200-lbs plus 200-lbs of gear. I am thinking about making the run to Block Island from Norwalk, Connecticut. Thanks.

I think the Outrage 25 has a 140-gallon fuel tank and fuel economy is likely to be about 2.5 MPG at cruising speeds with a 225. So the total safe range is going to be about 300 miles. Thus, it should be no problem to reach Block Island from Norwalk with a full tank. You might consider taking on some fuel at Block Island for the return trip.

It's advisable to have radar if going to Block, particularly this time of the year where the water is cold and fog forms quickly.

The range varies with the speed. Generally the optimum is a speed just above the minimum planing speed.

I have a similar set up (225 Optimax) Armstrong and 140 gallons. Figure 450 miles total using the rule of 1/3rd. So safely you can go in one direction 150 miles ( I say 100 to be safe) and return with enough reserves.

Prior to the fuel price increase, I used to make 70 to 100 mile one way trips offshore in Northern CA and always had plenty of fuel.

If in doubt, check your fuel consumption on some shorter trips and do the math. Also, you may want to make sure you can use all your fuel in your tanks. The pick-up tube may only allow you get so low in your tank.

Good luck and be safe.
