I have a new-to-me 15 with a Johnson 70 and a standard OMC side-mount control. Beneath the key switch, there is a black know that I can turn from side to side. What does this do? It seems to turn continuously - at first I thought it was the choke, but there are no detents or stops that would indicate (on or off). I've never had an OMC before.

Also, there is a plug just below this with three connectors - what is that for?

Thanks,

David

From the OMC Recreational Outboard Servie Manual, Section 9 - Remote Control, Page 9-5.........

Quote.

1. To adjust control handle friction, start engine and move the control handle to the forward throttle range. Apply just enough friction to allow easy movement in the forward throttle range, yet not allow vibration to change the throttle setting. Friction is adjusted by turning the knob located below the key switch. Clockwise rotation increases friction.

End quote.

One clarification. "Control handle" refers to the main shift/throttle handle, not the fast idle lever.

How does the knob affect the boat's performance?

Thanks, Skip.

Jim H - apparantly, it doesn't. I was hoping for a turbo-boost, which is why I asked here. :)

Yes, the knob is the throttle friction adjustment.

The three hole receptacle below that is for an optional instrument wiring harness plug-in (if I remember correctly.)

Like plugging in a Tach? I think I did that with an older Evinrude I once had.

Tach, volts, and trim guage if it is like my 1992 OMC. John
