Grand Island won't make [a Turbo Lift] for my short shaft 1972 Johnson 25-HP. The outboard is mounted on my 1968 Salem Skiff 13, a Boston Whaler look-a-like, and just takes too long to get on plane. I am a machinist and I am sure I can make this. I just need some input.

I have only seen one picture of the fin but I think it would work great on my boat. Would someone who has mounted one of these on their outboard please measure the thickness of the stainless steel? If anyone wants to share some detailed pictures, measurements and/or other details with me that would also be great.

Thanks in advance!

My boat is in the shop so I can't measure the thickness of the stainless steel. The tail probably weights 10 pounds so you might want to use a lighter gauge stainless steel.

I think my Turbolift cost me around $150. You might try a $25 Doelfin first.

Good luck,

Warren

The beauty of the Turbo-Lift is the lack of permanent mounting holes. It looks like 0.050" or maybe 0.063" based on Warren's photos. The bolts look like 1/4-20. I'd use a countersunk head myself, but some of Warren's other photos show they use a phillips pan head for the real thing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/warrent/Montauk%20Kicker/ DSCN1285.jpg

If you have access to a metal brake and a nibbler, I think you have everything you need.

Fin stock is .115" and the cross bar is .250" in thickness.

That thing is SERIOUS! Wow, I never would have guessed it was that thick!! The cross bar I would have thought was .25", but didn't expect the fin itself was as thick as quoted... Obviously, I need to have my eyes checked...
