I just bought a second propeller as a replacement while I get my original propeller - Black Max 13 x 19 - repaired.
I bought a Michigan Wheel Vortex and when I tested it, it really took effort to plane even though it was the replacement for the Black Max (48-77346A45). Does anyone have any thoughts as to why I have such a big performance difference with this propeller?

You don't mention the size or pitch of the Vortex, or the size and type of your outboard. That information would be useful. I can say that 19" pitch would be a lot if you're running a Mercury 4-stroke with a 2.07:1 gear ratio.

Different propeller perform differently. No mystery there. I can think of a dozen reasons why two propellers with the same nominal dimensions might perform differently but why not just ditch the crappy aluminum props and get a good stainless steel propeller?

I have a two-stroke 90-HP Mercury on a 2001 Ventura 160 which I just purchased. I am considering adding a stainless steel propeller. Any recommendations [for propeller and] pitch?
