RICHNLE posted 08-16-2007 04:40 PM ET (US) I have a 2004 13ft Sport with a 40hp Merc 4 stroke. The boat tends to porpoise badly unless I have the trim all the way down and add weight to the front of the boat. I would like to add Doelfins or Stingrays to help. Can anyone comment on how either of these products reduce porpoising on the 13ft sport? I know that both products reduce minimum planing speed and bow rise, but my main objective is eliminating the porpoisiong. The Stingray Jrs (1.5 - 40HP) and Seniors (25 - 365HP)both fit this engine, so please indicate which model you have. Thanks for the help!

HuronBob posted 08-16-2007 07:47 PM ET (US) my 130 sport (also a 2004) doesn't porpoise at all, it never has, but I've always run my engine trimmed almost (just a bit up to reduce the vibration that happens when the engine is tight against the transom). I've never had to add weight to the front of the boat. I guess I'm wondering why you wouldn't want it trimmed all the way down?

As for the Doelfin...it was a great addition to the boat, I would recommend it in a minute to anyone with the same configuration.

Had a stringray years ago; didn’t like the sharp downward pointing leading edge – imagine the side view of airplane wing, but with sharp leading edge. It was hard to dial in engine height so that the leading didn’t bite and cause excessive drag.

I used a dolphin for a while and liked it – with engine height such that it skimmed the surface at planning speed. But, “I” wanted the slowest planning speed possible, so I used the dolphin as a template, made new ones that extend 3” further to the back - out of 3/16” aluminum, and 100% pleased.

I have a 2002 130 with the 40 Merc EFI. I installed the Tiger Shark VG on mine. Porpoising is gone. Pops on plane much faster, and planes at as little as 13 mph. I did notice, however, that when running, the hydrofoil on mine is not out of the water completely. I plan to move the motor up one hole to alleviate that. I'll report on any changes in performance.
I also used the Tiger Shark on my former Dauntless 16 with significant improvement in performance.

Hi i have a 2006 130 Sport with the 40 hp EFI Mercury, i put a SE Sport 300 Hydrofoil .. big difference i love it. if i trim it up to much i can still get it to porpoise ...just a little... but can easily trim it down a touch and it goes away. I do not have to have the motor all the way down either.

the other thing i would recommend is get a stainless 4 blade trophy sport mercury prop i use the 12 pitch its cupped and i hit max wot rpm 5700 ... i dont have a speedometer but it doesn't "feel" any slower. 30 to 35+ mph

I can pull a 200lb adult skier no problem, with three people in the boat.

I can still plane off and hit about 4500 rpm with 900+ lbs in the boat
