I took my 1991 17' Outrage with a 1991 120hp Johnson out to the Shrewsbury Rocks Sunday with my two sons and had a great time...I decided to test my economy of the engine so I filled an auxilary fuel tank with about 5.5 gallons of fuel, connected it to my fuel system and headed out...I was able to travel about 9 miles in the ocean, almost to the rocks but ran out about a mile short of my destination. The funny thing was, as my engine was cutting out due to lack of fuel, I started thinking gto myself, "what's up with the engine!!!" Then I remembered, I had the main fuel tank closed off...I opened the valve and it started right up...but then stalled out again...this time I started to get that uneasy feeling we all get when the engine doesn't seem to want to run...I start playing with the primer bulb, connections, etc...then it dawned on me, I still had my empty fuel tank connected the fuel system...a quick dis-connect, pump the bulb and I'm off to the races...We had a wonderful day on the water...didn't catch much but the kids really enjoyed themselves...with today's gas prices, those 17' hulls continue to show their diversity...fishing a river or lake, inshore and offshore fishing...can't do that with many hulls...the seas were about 2-3' but the ride was nice...it's just a great design...I'm looking to put one more trip on her before she's ready for bed this winter... Can't say enough good things about those classic hulls...you get your money's worth!
