Finally got the damn Mercury running without killing all the insects on the canal. It still has some work on the performance. I only acheived 45mph today but the trim would not operate at speed, jackplate was working and I jacked that up all the way (see pictures at http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/an86carrera/ Low%20Pro%20Transition/ ) and could only get 5400 rpm with the 21" vengeance prop. acelleration was good so when the trim is working right I should be able to do more pitch. Yes, there is alot more work to do on cosmetics. I like to see them run before I worry about the looks. Len |

Looking good Len!!! That boat looks very much like a Texas gulf coast Redfish hunter. Those boats sometimes are cats or tunnel hulls. One thing they do is make it so you can stand on the top of the console to get a better view of the water and fish. |

Len, In my opinion, you have turned one of the ugliest looking Whalers into the best looking of all. A great flats or tarpon fishing boat. What happened to the Optimax in the original pics. Rich |

That looks great! Now I am further regretting passing on the one in Richmond. You accomplished a great deal in a short time, nice job. Brian |

That is one SERIOUSLY bad ass Whaler, Len. Great job. Maybe that will be what happens to 'Strike 3 II', our partnership banana Revenge 19, when some lucky & capable CW member picks up her motorless, controlless, gaugeless, trailerless hull in a month or so...picks her up for a financial song, I gotta add. Any creative offer will be seriously considered, especially if the buyer has a dream of turning her into something that beautiful! Tony |

Thanks again for the accolades. I am working on a new gauge panel for the console with all new gauges and switches with breakers along side each switch. Also, there will be all new wood doors and frames for it. So the boat will be completely re-wired. I am also putting together a custom throttle with twin trim buttons, one for engine trim and for jack plate control. This is going in the old Merc shifter which I would like to replace with new but I'm still deciding on the tower in which case Merc controls won't work with dual stations. I had to completely disassemble the thing to do this and let me tell you, it is pretty tedious working in there. The Opti 150 was a 25" had a bad lower unit and other issues. In searching for a short lower unit I found this very clean 200hp carbed 2.5 liter Mercury with a 20" mid so that found it's way to my project. Then I have to do something with the front end, platform, side steps or??? to cover those silly molded in trays. Flats/bay is where it is going to live and look real good doing it. It is LOW to the water with only about 8" of freeboard. Len |

Tony, Would a Low-Pro look right cruising under the Golden Gate? I don`t think so. It would do well as a Low-Pro in Florida, and actually it would like to be in my back yard, but how to get it there? Rich |

I think the cost of having it hauled across country would be like almost three times what we'll be asking for the boat itself, Rich. Too bad, because we're hoping she ends up with someone like you who would, with love and skill, either restore or convert her like Len did with his. And it's a real downer that our 'new' prototype Revenge 21 doesn't come with a trailer (luckily we swopped the very nice Pacific trailer that came with our first Revenge, a 21-footer, for the not-so-nice trailer that came with our current R-19 before we sold the R-21, so our current trailer is the right size for the new project). But it's sure a drag juggling two boats with one trailer, even though we have one boat in a slip and partner Matt has a small lake right next to his home where we can leave one or the other boats as we transfer the motor and other goodies. And it's going to be an added difficulty for the guy/gal who finally ends up with our current boat, cuz she'll be trailerless. Well, we'll see what happens. Tony |

The question is...45 or not to 45...that IS the question! Hell at least I got to ride in it and take a shower at the same time ;) |

Well, I have the motor running real well now and the tach and water pressure gauges stopped working so I still can't give the top speed numbers. I did however, reach 49.5mph yesterday without pushing it too hard. The new prop I put on is a 23" Tempest Plus Mercury and that really changed the boat. This prop is designed to run at very high motor heights. I am getting much happier with the boat at this point I'm sure I'll see 55 or so in the end. The gas consumption is scary though running on a 7.5 gallon tank. You spend a lot of time filling it back up;o] The boat is very stable and handles the speed very nicely. It has no bad handling characteristics that the 15' has ie. chine walking and feeling like the bow might punch through a wave. The rising bow on this boat is a very secure feeling. Well, I'm off to fix the gauges and run it again tomorrow. Len |

Pete, Midnight run WOT, without lights- ya, baby ya!! If you really enjoy that sort of boating, you would no doubt enjoy mullet fishing. That is by setting gil nets, a method of commercial fishing that has been outlawed for the past ten or so years, but is still done by a few;-) Rich |
