I currently have a 1987 Outage 20 powered with a 2004 150 Honda. The engine has approx. 800 hours of use and has performed extremely well. I have had ZERO problems with the engine, and I really love this Honda motor. I can cruise 30 MPH at 4500 RPMS and my appx. WOT is 39- to 42 mph at 5800 to 6000 RPMs. I am very hapy with the fuel economy; I consistently get appx. 250 to 280 miles per tank( 77 gal. tank). Other than my yearly dealer service, the only thing i have had to do to run the engine is turn the key. She has never skipped a beat. Nevertheless, I have come across a really great deal on a VERY low hour Honda 225 and am considering repowering. ( I realize that this boat is rated for 200 HP, but the 200 Honda and the 225 Honda are essentially the EXACT same engine and have the same specifications... - why not go with the 225?!). I like to fish 40+ miles offshore at times and the new power would make me feel more comfortable. I am concerned about the extra 100 lbs. of weight hanging off the transom. Will it adversly affect how the boat performs?...sits in the water.. ect.? Will I gain much in terms of performance?...how might my fuel economy be affected? Any advise on this repower would be greatly appreciated.

If you are happy keep what you have, 800 hours is NOTHING on a 4 stroke...when you get to 4000 start looking for a 200 or ???

That 225 will eat a bunch more fuel as well so consider that when running offshore.

Is 600 lbs too much weight to hang off the back of this boat?

I would not do it. 600lbs is a lot of weight in general for any boat but it is only 20 feet.

Sounds like an ideal setup you have now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your Honda is just about broken in.Lotta good time left on it. I'm with tohsgib on all counts.
