Not a lot of hull in the water is there? I will never forget there was a 15 for sale a couple years ago online somewhere, it was up in the midwest, the guy had it rigged with, I believe a 115. Under the tab marked cruise speed, the guy wrote "Very fast", and under top speed, wrote "even faster." |

That's funny, since I can imagine that even faster refers to uncontroleable..... I also remember this guy living in Curacao with a 15 classic and on the back he had a 115HP 2-stroke Johnson outboard. I heard that on a good day he could reach and maintain the top speed for about 3 seconds before closing the throttle bodies. Top speed of 58MPH !! That's 16.4MPH faster than my 90HP Yamaha does.... CRAZYYYYYYYYYY............... |

I enjoyed seeing your boat in your home movie. I wish there was a slow motion feature; it really zooms past so fast it is hard to see the hull's planing attitude. It looks like you don't have much hull left in the water. |

Very cool video! She's flying! Trimmed up those 15's really scoot! I'm surprised with a 90 she doesn't go faster! What's your top speed under ideal conditions?-k |

Under ideal conditions the top speed is 41.6MPH I was also surprised about this top speed, since I read many forums about this combo and many owners have spoken about speeds of almost 50MPH... However, it remians a very nice boat/engine combo to ride... Lots of fun in the sun |

That should go faster than 41.6 MPH. When was the last time the motor was decarbed? |

I think its the setup, what hole are the transom bolts on? should be at least one up, what prop are you using? How many rpms? Looks like motor is kicked out enough. rich |

The engine is mounted on the second hole from the top. The prop used, is the standard black Yamaha 19 pitch stainless steel one. The RPM @ WOT is 5200 rpms. The engine is brand new, I am still breaking in the engine. Only has 6 hours on the clock. Maybe the extra oil used in the tank is causing lower rpms?? When breaking in these engines the factory advices to use a 1:50 oil mixture in the fuel tank. The engine also has it's built in oil injection system. I notices that the engine smokes alot with this extra amount of oil it's burning.... Maybe the engine will run @ higher rpms after the break in period.... |

I have no first hand experience, but from what I have read your boat should be seeing a lot more speed than that. |

This is an commercial Alert hull which has a heavier layup so it will not be as fast as a recreational 15. However, it should be able to achieve about 45 MPH. I would wait to evaluate performance until after the break-in period is over with a new set of spark plugs. |

I HAVE A 1977 15' WHALER WITH A 60 E-TEC. THE MOTOR IS JACKED UP 2 NOTCHES, AND I AM RUNNING A 17" VIPER. I AM RUNNING ABOUT 42-43 MPH. EITHER BUY AN E-TEC OR FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG. SORRY GUYS THE 60 E-TEC IS A SMOKIN MOTOR! A WATER VALVE IN THE EXHAUST CAUSES THE MOTOR TO 'LIGHT UP' ABOUT 4500 RPM. I KNOW YOU ARE RUNNING A 2 STROKE AND MY E-TEC EATS 4-STROKES FOR LUNCH! |

Jim, Welcome to the Whaler Message Board! You will find a world of information on Whalers and engine set ups on this site. I am sure that your contributions will be welcome too but take it easy on the all caps when you are posting. EMB |

You should be going faster than low 40's. Even your video gives that impression. With my 15 I got 55 mph on my gps (in light chop) when I had my 90 merc on a manual jack plate. I have it on a powered jack now (not much more weight) but the motor is getting up in the hours so it's now getting around 51 mph. Still in the 50's nonetheless! |

Yea it does sound like he should be going faster. My 13 is going 34.5 on gps and I have to little pitch on my prop. Once I get the new prop and dialed in I'll be running low 40's with my 50hp. |

Edward,I have the same 90HP Yamaha on a 15' with a jackplate. I have a yamaha performance series 18 pitch ss prop, turns 5400rpm @47-48 mph gps. This is a progresive pitch prop and runs out like a 20 pitch prop. hope this helps. |

Hi lastmango, Do you also have the heavier 15 Alert Whaler or do you have the older lighter version? This will also play a roll in top speed! Can you give me the Part Number of the prop you are using at the moment. I wanna know what they are selling it for on the Island. Thanks, |

I just stumbled on this site looking for a bow cushion for my modified 15 gls. This is a real nice site loaded with info. I run a 1987 112 spl bolted directly to the transom. With a 24 Raker I get 57 mph on GPS. With a manual jack I could probably see more mph. Here are some pics. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd128/dixtover/bostonwhaler003.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd128/dixtover/bostonwhaler001.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd128/dixtover/bostonwhaler006.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd128/dixtover/bostonwhaler005.jpg |

http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd128/dixtover/bostonwhaler001.jpg Jeepers, 57 mph and all you got to hang on to is the wheel and you are standing? Does she chine walk? John |

I would be lying if I said it did not walk. It is not as bad as some say. But then it’s all relative. I have only owned one boat that went slower then 45. And that was an aluminum boat with a 9.9 hp. The whaler is set up with sea star hydraulic steering and I think good steering plays a vital role in handling a faster boat. The problem with fast whalers is there is no pad to balance on so constant steering feed back is required. I do sit down on a cooler. The cooler seat just was not in when I took the photos. The boat is currently propped with a 21 raker with a consistent speed in the low 50's and handles great. I like fast cruising speeds close to 40. But that is my feelings. Someone else might not think it is stable at those speeds. |

edward, nice boat. How much does your 90hp yamaha weigh? I thought maybe a 90hp was to heavy for the transom. |

Edward, the model 15' that I have is a GLS. It has a one piece molded front/rear seat w/side console that is about an extra 125-150lbs.There is also a new 15 gallon tank under seat which adds a little more weight over the 12 gallon one.I'll try to look up the prop part number and get back to you. |
