Who has [a Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 22 with a 225-HP two-stroke outboard which can reach speeds greater than 50-MPH]? What propeller [was used]?

[I] recently hung a 1994 Yamaha 225-HP two-stroke on my 1983 Outrage 22 which was an increase in power from a 1992 Evinrude 175-HP two- stroke. With the 175 we could hit about 48-MPH with two guys, light load and a 14.5x17. So now that I have the 225, I can hit about 44-MPH with the 17 pitch prop that came on the boat. Since I plan to get a new prop, just wondering if anyone out there can hit 50-MPH with a 225? And if they can, what propeller?

Cheers

OUTRE is an OUTRAGE 22 with a 225-HP Evinrude. It was reported to be able to reach speeds of 50-MPH with a 19-inch Evinrude SST-II three-blade propeller.

My 1979 22' Outrage rigged with a 1979 235 Johnson would run about 55 MPH rigged with a 13 1/4 X 21 SST prop. When I repowered in 1986 with a new 225 Johnson Looper, it was equipped with a 13 1/4 x 19 SST prop. The hole shot was improved but I did lose about 4 MPH top end. As additional information, my 235 Johnson was mounted at the highest level on the transom per Boston Whaler Customer Service instructions at the time. The 225 Looper was mounted one hole lower. I'm not sure the impact of the lower mounting height in my top end speed or if it was all due to the lower pitch. My 1989 22' Outrage was initially rigged with a Johnson 200 equipped with the same 13 1/4 x 19 SST prop. It would run about 50 MPH. It was also mounted one hole from the highest position. Hope this helps!

John Flook has said that his boat was able to do 53 MPH before he added the RADAR arch. He uses a 14-1/2" x 19" OMC SST II
