[A 1989 Yamaha 150-HP motor on a] 1989 Outrage 18 with SS prop (has a 19P stamp on it) at WOT and trimmed all the way turns 5,100-RPM and gets 42-MPH (by GPS). Engine seems to like 3,700-RPM for cruising. To others with this setup:

What prop do you run?

What do you find to be the most fuel-efficient cruising RPM?

Where are my other 400 to 500-RPM at WOT?

I realize this is an old motor and there are a lot of variables.

Our boats [are] identical except mine is a 1988. She turns 5,000-RPM at WOT. I don't really know top speed since I almost never run her there. My engine is mounted on the first hole which may cost me a few RPM. I have thought of raising the motor and changing props but she runs so well I don't want to mess things up. I do like the Yamaha Performance series propeller. She runs well at all speeds but hums beautifully at 4,100-RPM. At that speed wind is about the only thing you hear.

I would think a 17 in pitch would be just right. Pick up 300-400 rpm and put less load on it cruising.
On the other hand, I wonder if in the interest of fuel economy the slight lugging by having just a bit to much pitch might gain some mpg?
