I have heard/read conflicting information regarding the use of Mercury props on Yamaha motors without switching hubs. I was under the impression a new hub would need to make the prop fully compatable; one gut told me just the thrust washer needs to be of Yamaha variety.

I am interested in trying out a set or Rev 4's, 23 pitch. I am currently running Yamaha Saltwater Series 23 pitch, turning 5400 rpms on a pair of 1999 Yamaha 250's before she starts to vent-not bad. I've heard good things about the Rev 4's and would like to see for myself. Anyone know of a source for a used counter-rotating pair? Not interested in spending $900 for a new pair to "try them out".

For the record: the drive sleeve and aft adapter of a Mercury or Quicksilver Flo-Torq hub kit is identical between the Mercury hub kit and the Yamaha hub kit.

A Mercury hubbed prop can be used on a Yamaha outboard. The thrust washers are different, though for testing purposes, the OE Yamaha thrust washer can be used on the Revolution 4s with no trouble at all.

The prop nut is metric on the Yamaha and SAE on the Mercury. The Yamaha nut can use either the cotter pin or the Mercury tab washer to secure it.

Tom, you say for testing purposes the Yamaha OE thrust washer can be used. Is this acceptable for permanent installation with the Yamaha prop nut and cotter pin?

I have been advised that it is not, though I have a friend with an Outrage 24 and a Yamaha 250 which uses the Yamaha thrust washer under the Revolution 4 prop I supplied him. It seems to work fine as is but I think I will pull his prop and see what is going on and swap out to the Mercury thrust washer for Yamaha.
