I [have twin] 2000 Mercury OptiMax 150-HP motors on a 1988 Boston Whaler Outrage 22 Whaler Drive. I'm looking for suggestions on propellers and pitch. Thanks,
Peter

Peter,

Recommend a pair of 15-1/4" x 19" Mercury MIRAGEplus propellers.

Tom--Thanks. How do think 19-inch-pitch Laser II propellers would perform?

Peter,

I think the 19" Laser IIs would be a poor choice. You will need the 21" Laser IIs if you go that route.

The Laser IIs will be fast propellers on your boat, perhaps the fastest, but they do not accelerate well and are prone to ventilation. Because they have a relatively small blade area, thy do not offer very good cruise performance.

I have tested the 21" Laser IIs on my own 25 foot Whaler (similar in size to a 22 Whaler Drive, though a little larger) and they were as fast as the 19" Stiletto Advantage IIs, but they offered poor acceleration and cruise speed fuel economy. They were among the worst performers on my boat.

If top sped is what you are after, give them a try, but you'll want the 21" pitch.

I should add that there are numerous propeller models worth trying; the MIRAGEplus's are not the only choice.

Try a pair of:

13-1/2" x 21" Mercury Enertias

14-5/8" x 19" Mercury Revolution 4s

14" x 21" Mercury VenSuras (a.k.a. Offshore)

Tom,

Thanks again for all the info and suggestions.

Would the Mirageplus be your first choice? I need to start somewhere and you seem to know props and Boston Whalers as well as anyone.

Peter
