Has anybody placed an engine with a 25-inch lower unit on a 13-ft sport, with full transom, using some kind of setback bracket? If so, what type of bracket could be used? Any help would be appreciated. The engine I have in mind is a 30-hp Yamaha, 2-stroke engine with 25-inch shaft. Thanks,

Erik

When did Yamaha ever make a 25" shaft 30hp? Some companies make a 9.9 25" for sailboats that a 20 is still too short but most engines are not available in 25" until 90-115hp.

Well Nick, maybe I'm misunderstanding something. The engine has a "long shaft". I thought a long shaft was 25-inches and a short shaft would be 20-inches. Then an extra-long shaft would be 30-inches and an extra-short shaft would be 15-inches. I could be wrong in my thinking here.

The Yamaha engine type number is 30DEOL and is 30-hp. The second option would be a 25NMHOL, which is a 25-hp. In both cases the "L" stands for long shaft. The reason for thinking about the long shaft is because they are the only ones left in stock and they won't be selling these 2-strokes, new, anymore. We prefer the power and weight of these 2-strokes for this 13-ft hull.

Thanks,

Erik

Sorry but you are incorrect in your thinking ;)

15" is short shaft
20" is long shaft
25" is XL shaft
30" is XXL shaft

Does not matter where you live. Now on larger engines many get this confused because a 20" is "considered" a short shaft for a V6 but is really still a long shaft.

Go buy the engine and bolt her up.

Ok Nick, thanks. Dumb mistake on my part.

No not dumb at all Erik. I was just using your words "I could be wrong in my thinking here."

You are not the first nor the last to get it confused. Again many people think a 20" shaft is short because no 15's are made these days over 40hp, even they are getting hard to find.
