We put an older Yamaha 40 hp on our [13-foot Boston Whaler boat] this week-end. The boat runs great, but with one person sitting at the side console it feels like it might flip over at top speed. With two people sitting side by side it is fine. Is this normal?

Yup at about 35mph she gets a tad flighty feeling.

Would the 12 gallon tank mounted under the front bench seat stabilize the boat at higher speeds?

The tank would need to be mounted beside the driver to keep it from leaning to the side

Mount the engine as high as you can, otherwise all good advice.

My 12 gallon tank is mounted (slid) up under the front seat. Even with the tank filled the boat will dance at WOT and full trim, especially in a light chop. Feels as though you are going much faster than you really are.
