I may change the propeller on my Boston Whaler 1996 OUTRAGE 19 with Yamaha 200-HP Saltwater Series two-cycle motor from the current stainless steel Ballistic propeller. I can't find any inforomation on the Ballistic propeller, but it looks like the tips of prop are cut off. Most of the time I fast troll at 8-knots in rough seas. I would appreciate any help in propeller selection to help with fuel economy. My current fuel consumption when trolling is 4.2-GPH.

Ballistic tips are like that. More of a speed prop but should be fine on your boat. If RPM is correct at WOT, no need to really change. Personally I found smaller Yamaha motors run their best with OEM props. I know the V6 motors do well with Mercury and Stiletto props.

I recommend a 15-1/4" x 19" Mercury MIRAGEplus or a 14" x 21" Mercury Offshore/VenSura four blade.

I have a 96 21' Outrage with a 97 Yamaha. It has a 19" factory prop. With 3 people and about 30 gallons of fuel the max rpm I can get is 46-4700. The boat does have a T-Top which is gonna create drag. Would a 17 prop help? This is the original prop that came with boat and it's hard for me to believe boat wouldn't be propped right from the start. Motor starts, idles, and runs well just won't turn over 4700rpm. Could a motor problem cause this?

It sure sounds like it.

Tom are you saying a different prop would improve performance or are you saying motor may have problems? It has good compression on all cylinders. Perhaps I should have started a new thread but there are so many posts about props, thought I'd ad to this one. Thanks for all replies

Greg,

Why don't you start a new thread and we'll discuss your performance situation.

I think a 19P is too much for a 200 on a 21ft outrage. I have a 200 Merc on my 1996 19/20 Outrage with a T-top and it turns 5300 Rpms spinning a 19P Mercury Vengeance. Motor is mounted on the 2nd set of holes and that is with the motor trimmed up pretty high.

I used to have a 150 Merc EFI with a 17P powertech and it would turn about 5400 rpms on average. I could get another 100 rpms on a cool day with just me onboard.

The 150 Topped out at 43mph and the 200 will hit 49.
