Given the increase in fuel efficiency an e-tec can provide over my old 90 hp Yamaha, I am pretty keen on a repower. BUT - the cost of a new e-tec 90 is almost as much as I paid for my boat. I am not proud - a good used motor would be fine. How do I tap into the used outboard market in Southern California? Any good recommendations? |

Craigslist in San Diego and Orange county seemed to produce the best that I have seen. Now that we are near end of season you might also find a good deal at one of the dealers in the area. |

From what I see, there is no market for used e-tecs for the most part or even 4 strokes. Most are keeping them due to efficiency and relatively new engines. To find one used they are not usually a bargain and you are better off buying new. If you find a used 90 e-tec for $5k is it really worth the $1500+ over a new one?? |

Tohsgib - you make a good point. However, I am not even finding new motors around the $6,500 you imply - all I can find are dealers who are selling motors at "MAP" - $8,400. |

Not an endorsment but. Eds says they will ship E-Tec's to your home or dealer $6,000 for a 90hp. http://www.edsmarinesuperstore.com/evinrude.htm |

I too have been researching new motors in Southern California. I called ED's and they told me that they could not ship the size motor I am looking for (60hp). |

Len paid like $7k OTD for one here but now 09's are out so you should be able to find a leftover for $6500 or so. |

I repowered last year after a 9 month search. I found that about February dealers were the most pliable. If you can wait that long, it might be worth it, and as stated above, used outboards typically aren't much of a bargain. |

I can wait until Feb - there's nothing wrong with my current motor - thanks for that suggestion. I will call Ed's in the am. Thanks! Bill |
