I have a kicker motor bracket on "The Gyzmo" which was made as per the description in the reference section for the 15 foot whaler transom. I have read that almost any h.p. rating will work but I will be using the boat in the Great Lakes and would like more than just minimum push and was wondering if my 9.9 (older 2 stroke) will be to much torque for this bracket. |

Should be fine but may be overkill. Try it but I think a 6-8hp would be plenty on a 15-17 hull. |

I found 6hp to be the just right combination of power and weight for my 73 16' hull. |

That is probably more horsepower than you need. My 18 Outrage goes only 1/2 mph faster at full throttle than at half with a 9.8hp. The speed was measured with a GPS, but I'm judging RPM by ear. This test was done in calm conditions with minimal winds. In a headwind with conditions deteriorating toward snotty, you might be glad you have the extra horsepower. Dave |

The bracket is apparently made according to the plans shown in Auxiliary Engine Bracket for 15-foot Boston Whaler Boats |

Yes Jim my bracket is made exactly to those specs. As the article does not suggest a maximum h.p. rating but does mention the 6 h.p. I think I will look for another motor rather than using my 9.9 as a kicker. |
